Bio & research
John Foley is a Senior Seed Production Agronomist for PGG Wrightson Seeds (PGW Seeds). PGW Seeds is a proprietary seed company based in Canterbury. John’s role is in seed production research and precision agriculture.
He also has oversight of the company’s 171-hectare research farm near Lincoln. The research that John is involved in is in the arable sector. This is a highly specialised industry that produces seeds and grains for domestic and international markets.
John sees the arable sector as a good example of innovation and collaboration that delivers value for seed growers and sector companies. As part of PGW Seeds international activities, John has worked extensively in Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil – assisting in the development of seed production capabilities in that region.
Mat’s report aims to provide a model for generating and capturing ideas to solve the wicked problems of food and agriculture.
The key element to solving this is bringing to bear the focus, passion, practical application and entrepreneurial drive of our farmers and growers. The innovation model needs to put them at the centre and build an innovation consciousness amongst our farmers and growers.
