A farming scholarship that drives insight and foresight to keep NZ at the global forefront of food and fibre.

New Zealand is a small place at the end of the world. Yet, it is among the global leaders in food growing and food production. It’s a position that can only be held with a healthy dose of aptitude and attitude. Leadership characteristics we like to see in our Scholars.

New Zealand’s food and fibre producers stay competitive even with their logistical challenges, high land values and without the subsidies available to farmers elsewhere in the world.

Yet, despite New Zealand’s achievements, there’s always a new path ahead and new challenges to be overcome – the Nuffield New Zealand Farming Scholarship plays a significant role equipping leaders in our Food and Fibre Sector for the journey ahead.

Nuffield Scholarships equip primary sector leaders for a fast-changing world.

Nuffield is part of an international food and fibre network promoting global vision, leadership and innovation. It provides scholars with access to world-class leaders in the best primary industries production, management and marketing systems.

Scholarship recipients take time away from their work to travel, observe, immerse, reflect, and learn about global agricultural practices and their operating contexts.

They gain new insights and ideas to bring back to New Zealand to positively influence decisions that affect the Food and Fibre Sector – and our rural communities.

The Scholarship develops leaders for today’s fast-changing Food and Fibre Sector. It is designed for those who are engaged, motivated and committed to solving old and emerging challenges. Nuffield Scholars make change happen.

Are you a Nuffield New Zealand Farming Scholar in the making?

Nuffield Scholars come from a range of backgrounds. From hands-on farming in agriculture, horticulture, viticulture, aquaculture, seafood, apiculture and forestry, through to research, regulatory, and agri-professionals.

If you’re considering applying, it’s important to remember you don’t need to have a degree or any form of academic background to do so. You just need to be motivated enough to make things happen.

We’re looking for the grounded doers – the people who try to make difference in their teams, their communities and industries.

The common thread running between Scholars is that they all have at least a connection to growing and producing, and a desire to help shape and lead the future of their industry.

We welcome those New Zealand citizens and permanent residents who are committed to developing the people around them and seek to lead conversations in the Food and Fibre Sector.

If that sounds like you, we’d like to hear from you.
